So when preparing for surgery,
we also want to prepare our mindset
and that is to have patience when recovering.
Not everyone recovers the same
especially depending on the procedure.
It's a great point.
Look at how people sometimes take different medications,
amount of narcotics, after their surgery.
Some people can take more.
Some people can take less.
It's also the same way with our bodies.
I can't always say that you are not going to be swollen in one week.
We can give you normals. We can give you expectations.
But we want you to have a little grace with yourself.
A lot of times we say silly things as far as our breasts,
“They're sisters not twins”.
We can't make them do something that time just has to help.
I like how we were talking, some people swell longer.
Some people may not swell at all.
If you start comparing yourself to other people and you're like,
“Well she looks different than I did it one week,
so something must be wrong”.
No, everyone's recovery is unique. It's different.
You have to have patience.
What I found too helping patients with their healing,
maybe taking photos.
Take progression photos just to see,
“Oh things are changing. I'm not swelling more.
It's actually going down. It's just very small”.
We talk to patients a lot about how they'll notice differences
in the morning than in the evening and that's a
good indication of how things are changing.
In one week, they'll see a difference in how much happened
in swelling and changes in their fluid.
Sometimes it can go down to our ankles
even though that's not what we worked on, but that's just the body
having to have time to, number one, heal.
I mean that body went through a little bit of a different process.
It's got to accommodate back to what's normal for itself.
Just like exercise, in which your body has
to adjust to when you start it again.
When you stop and you go back, it's tough.
So that body is just taking a little bit of time to
know how it can get back to being normal for yourself.
Everyone is different.
Patience.
