KRON TV 4 covers the 2019 National Night Out celebration event at the Alhambra Christmas Tree Farm.

Neighbors met some of the finest law enforcement and first responders as part of National Night Out at the Alhambra Christmas Tree Farm on Tuesday, August 6.

Neighborhood Watch organizer Pete Sabine are partnered with neighbors and local law enforcement for National Night Out.

“I like it because it’s a real community involvement event. It’s an opportunity to talk in a relaxed atmosphere with local law enforcement and emergency first responders,” National Night Out event sponsor Pete Sabine said. “It’s a time to get to know your neighbors, get to know your police force, just a great time for interaction. A chance to see the police in a different light. It’s one of the nights that I enjoy more than most.”

The event was hosted at the Alhambra Christmas Tree Farm at 2647 Reliez Valley Road, Martinez, from 6 pm to 9 pm. The event was free, and all were welcome.

This year, the Food Bank of Contra Costa – Solano benefitted from a fundraising food drive at the event. Attendees who bring a food donation received a free raffle ticket to the main event prize raffle.

Several first responders were at the event, including Martinez Police Department, Contra Costa Fire Protection District, American Medical Response, East Bay Parks Regional Police, the California Highway Patrol, and the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. A BBQ food truck, face painting for the kids, ice cream sandwiches (sold by a local Boy Scout pack) and free bicycle safety information for parents.

There was dancing to the live music, ice cream treats from local Boy Scouts, safety demonstrations from local law enforcement agencies, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) disaster preparedness information, child ID program information, displays from local fire department and other emergency first-responders, face painting fun, and an animal petting zoo.

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the U.S., held the first Tuesday of August. The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. The “Night” is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

Over 700 community residents attended this National Night Out event.
