Rain Stick/Maraca
A fun activity for kindergarteners to explore their crafts abilities. We will be making a maraca out of an empty toilet paper roll. They will get to decorate the maraca with whatever designs they want. They can draw on a paper then glue or tape that to the roll, or they can draw directly on the roll. They will then put some rice, dry noodles, or anything that can make noise against each other. They will use tape and paper to close the ends of the roll so nothing falls out.
List of supplies needed:
Empty toilet paper roll
Paper of different sizes
Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
Tape
Rice, dry noodles, beans, anything that will make noise when shaken
Help from adult if needed with parts taping around edge
How-to instructions:
Step 1: Use paper and your choice of drawing materials to create any type of design you want on a half piece of paper
Step 2: Using a smaller piece of paper, tape it over one side of the roll and make sure it is secured tightly.
Step 3: use rice, dry noodles, or whatever you have that will make noise and put about a handful into the opened side of the roll.
Step 4: Use another smaller piece of paper and tape over open side of roll
Step 5: shake gently and make sure everything inside is secure (add more or less depending on how you want the sound and redo steps 3-5)
Step 6:Once both sides are taped, use the drawing you made and tape it to the roll. (if there is extra around the ends of the roll, you can fold that over to make sure the ends will stay closed)
Step 7: enjoy and have fun!
