"On Feb 29, 1980, The Joe Ely Band featuring Joe Ely, Jesse Taylor, Lloyd Maines, Ponty Bone, Greg Wright, and Robert Marquam took the stage for the first of two nights at The Venue in London. These nights were the final shows of Joe’s historic two-week ‘Tour of England’ which included co-billing several shows with The Clash. A decision was made to record The Venue shows for a live album that would be a testament to these monumental two weeks in England. The album would be Joe’s first live album and titled ‘Live Shots”. Originally released in England only in 1980 with a red cover, the ‘Live Shots’ album was released in the USA some time later with a purple cover. All of Joe’s live records are top-shelf, but ‘Live Shots’ holds a special spot for long time fans as it really captures the magic of the early Joe Ely Band era."

Please enjoy the opening song, Fingernails, as Lloyd Maines and the band, get the crowd ready to have some fun!

NOTE: I am a professional photographer of 35+ years. I've been documenting Joe Ely since 1986. In the summer of 2019, I honored this Texas music legend, as well as many other great local musicians, with a very special photo exhibit at The Austin History Ctr. The exhibit remained up for 3 months, and can currently be seen online at the Austin History Ctr site.
