I made these boxes based on designs in the book "52 boxes in 52 weeks" by Matt Kenney. All three box bodies were made of the same piece of cherry which I resawed on the bandsaw to get continuous grain match, and planed by hand as I don't have a planer (this requires more skill and practice than I currently have). Descriptions for each box follow.

Box 1: 2" H x 3 1/4" W x 6 3/4" L
The bottom is plywood painted in navy blue milkpaint. The blue was far brighter before I finished it with Danish oil and the wrong kind of wax. The lid is walnut, the pull cherry. I cut and mitered the pieces on the tablesaw. I prematurely sanded the parts prior to gluing which rounded over the miters and created a bit of a gap at the seams.

Box 2: 1 3/8" H x 1 5/8" W x 4 3/4" L
I used hand tools to cut the pieces to length, rabbet the top and bottom, and miter the ends. I rather enjoyed it. The bottom is plywood veneered with walnut. I glued a piece of green silk with a twig & blossoms motif to the inside face of the bottom. The top is walnut with a Brazilian cherry pull. I finished the box with walnut oil and wax. It is a sweet little box.

Box 3: ~2" H x 2" W x 2" L
This box was also made using handtools. The bottom is plywood veneered with mahogany. I glued a piece of red silk with a dragon motif to the inside face of the bottom. The lid is mahogany with a standard craft store bead for a pull (which was difficult to center). This is a very small box, perhaps a bit too tall for its size. Still, it was fun to make and I will find a use for it.
