Good morrow, indeed. That phrase means, “a new beginning.” And at the Denver Performing Arts Complex…

"And, it's just surreal."

"I live in joy!"

It’s a *surreal* good morrow at the 37th Annual DPS Shakespeare Festival.

"Being here. Being able to perform..."

Because live performance…

"Will you send him the money from his debt?"

At least for a couple of minutes, is back.

"It just brings me so much joy, and just being able to go out there..."

"My tongue, though not my heart, shall have his will."

"And you know, goof off, not take myself too seriously!"

The stage gives you that.

"It's even better when I get to interact with the other actors in person. It makes it way more fun. And it makes me act my character even better."

The Shakespeare Festival – which typically draws 5,000 to this atrium in Downtown Denver - took place off the stage in both 2020, and 2021…

"And roundabout the cauldron..."

...with brilliant, virtual performances.

"A soldier, full of strange oaths..."

But for these students…

Nothing beats *this*.

"I was a 9th grader, and I was brand new to the theater world."
"This is one of the reasons I fell in love with Shakespeare – this festival."

(Student recites lines)

"And I really, truly fell in love with the theater, and Shakespeare, during this festival. And it was a life-changing moment for me. It really was."

"Part of its importance is helping kids find something that they might really enjoy. And giving people that opportunity to express that."

With vaccine availability increasing… the festival lights are finally starting to warm up - Illuminating moments like this one:

"After so long grief, such festivity!"

at the 38th annual DPS Shakespeare Festival.

"I sure hope that every, every single student - even the little kids - gets their chance to perform the character they want to be. That’s what I’m hopeful for. I’m hopeful that everyone could return to normal and be who they are."
