Specializing in watercolor and acrylics, Water Media Artist Carmen Bruhn’s paintings are sure to catch one’s eye. With their vibrant colors and imaginative designs, Carmen’s paintings stand apart from the crowd; each brushstroke displaying the tremendous care that goes into making her artwork come alive. In this video, Carmen discusses what inspires her most, how she comes up with her art and the motivating factors that push her to continue painting.

Carmen Bruhn (Painter): “I am a water media painter working in watercolors and in acrylics. I take from my architectural background, my love for design, and apply it to my subject. I do a lot of sketches, draw some ideas, and figure out which of the designs I like better. Like Donna Zagotta said, ‘Plug your subject into design,’ and that's what I really do. I want my designs to be rich with imagination and creativity, and I always want to be humble and paint with an amateur spirit, always excited to try new things, and play with my art, looking for different ways to improve it or make it more fun. I find inspirations in the fashion industry, and also in nature. But color is what really motivates me to paint. Color is always my passion and my frustration. Paintings come from being true to my artistic self, and from painting from the heart.”
