Movie made by CL Stokely while at Halliburton (2014). Movie shared with Permission from Halliburton (2021).

A distributed fiber optic acoustic sensor can measure acoustic vibrations at every meter (1 meter = 3.28 feet) along a fiber optic cable over a long distance, typically about 10 kilometers maximum distance. With a 1 meter spatial resolution, a ten kilometer (equal to 10.000 meters) length of traditional telecommunications fiber is equivalent to ten thousand human audible microphones all measuring and recording simultaneously. These sensors have been tested in extreme environments including along the wellbore casings of oil wells.
