Warming Waters is a public art project that engaged the community in Washington DC and Katakhali Village, Bangladesh in climate justice sari co-creation workshops led by Monica Jahan Bose from November 2019-July 2020 followed by an installation in Georgetown at the C&O Canal from July 22-26, 2020 with three nights of projections by Robin Bell. Participants were paid for their work, and ASL interpretation was provided. Warming Waters is part of the ongoing Storytelling with Saris project which Bose started in 2012.
The project was funded by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities Public Art Building Communities Grant Program. Many thanks to everyone in DC and Bangladesh who helped create the saris, to DCCAH, and to our community and media partners: the Georgetown BID, Katakhali Women's Cooperative, Anacostia Arts Center, Eaton DC, Adams Morgan Community Center at the Line Hotel, Mom's Clean Air Force, DC Mayor's Office on Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs, We Act Radio, and WPFW 89.3 FM. Special thanks to all the ASL interpreters, to the Bell Visuals team, and to our media, PR, and design team Karen Baker and Kelly Davidson.
