On 12 May 2021, the international feminist short film festival "Vierte Welle Film Festival" will start in Berlin, this time in online format. The Festival aims to give visibility to women artists and help raise awareness about gender inequality, citizen participation, work to prevent prejudice, fight against discrimination and the recognition of rights through audiovisual content, MADE BY WOMEN, of the so-called fourth-wave feminism. Fourth-wave feminism is articulated through the creation of audiovisual and written content of a philosophical, political, economic, social, ecological and cultural nature; academic or not, and the dissemination of the same through social networks and traditional media.
Going back to the history and essence of the Festival, it had its first edition in 2019, when forty short films made by women from twenty different countries were screened in the classic Lichtblick-Kino cinema in the Pankow district. In the second edition, which will take place in 2021, short films concerning the themes previously addressed in 2019 will be shown and a fourth category will be included.
1°.#INTERSECTIONALITY: related to injustice, inequality, exclusion and discrimination (whether based on gender, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation or a person's nationality) carried out as a consequence of imposed social categories and the existing system of oppression.
2°.#BODYPOSITIVITY: referring to the socially established canons of beauty.
3°.#METOO: related to violence against women.
4°.#PANDEMICFILMS: related to artistic productions in times of pandemic. In addition, there will be activities related to the topics discussed in which the public will be able to participate free of charge.
Among the activities that will take place, there will be the so-called "Round Tables" in which the directors of the different short films will be able to talk in depth about their films, and the public will be able to participate by asking questions and thus become part of the background of the interesting topics addressed. At the same time, the following activities will take place: "The Dark Side of Female Transgression", "(Trans) Female Gaze in Film", "Fat Activism", and "Feminist Poster in Pandemic".
The festival is organised by Karne Kunst and Xochicuicatl eV, and is supported by the NEUSTART KULTUR programme.
