Sea Chest was developed in cooperation with the research faculty of the University of Bremen (MARUM). For one and a half months the artistic focus was layed on the exchange with the maritim zone of the Atlantic ocean.
During the exploration on the research vessel METEOR, the imense open space of the deep sea generated a contrast to the compressed working life in the ship‘s hull. Via video documentation and acoustically capturing the meet up of the sea and the movements of ship‘s crew the vessel became a stage by itself. From this point of view I decided to include the scientific instruments and working spaces into my ephimeral trace. The goal to exchange a dress with the Ocean was an improvised personal point of contact. A selfmade silk dress was let down to the deep-sea platform and instead the ocean‘s mood was projected into the engine room, the laboratories and the old vessel library.
At the end of the journey I did an interview with the Atlantic ocean. All questiones were colected from the ship‘s crew, personally adressed to the sea.
