Growing up without parents, Ma-Sha has always worked as guard in a red-light district. When he is imprisoned for manslaughter following a customer's death, he breaks out of jail but is soon caught again and sent to a correctional institution on Orchid Island. Guided by his former elementary classmate, who is now a penal officer, he finally repents his wild past, writing down his stories and eventually publishing them.
Never Too Late to Repent is the model of Taiwan B-movies. Director Ouyang boldly casts the controversial criminal, Ma-Sha, as the lead in his autobiographical adaptation. The film is an adrenaline-fueled ride of violence and decadence set deep in the red-light district. With his symbolic tattoos and wild performance, MA became a villain icon in Taiwanese social realist films.
