It started in Cellardyke, in the East Neuk of Fife, where the song I Am The River was first recorded by Tom Houston with Clive Gray in early 2019. The original has meandered through a couple of variations, with many fine contributions from other artists, and this mix (playfully numbered #33) was produced by Neill MacColl.
The beautiful cello and singing by Mary Erskine (aka Me For Queen) still flows through this version – the original features on the George Street Sessions Vol 2 album – and Kate St John adds a sprinkling of freshwater piano. Ben Nicholls and Mattie Foulds also provide a new rhythm for the river with their tidal playing on double bass and drums respectively.

The film here has explored many tributaries and been on a fair old journey, from the source of the song near Tom's home harbouring under the Ochil Hills near Tillicoultry, and passed through six full seasons. It sails past a few industries along the River Forth, some fading and some still thriving, and slows down to wonder awhile at the engineered might of the three great bridges near North Queensferry. Then it ends where it all began, allowing us to contemplate how some things can just carry on without us, and some things don't, quite naturally.

Hearing this song, and being closely involved in the evolution of it, inspired me to make the life changing move to Cellardyke after living all my life before in and around central Scotland. Stirling will always be my home but small fish don't really need to travel far.
