Maria Clara - Her name and character is a byword in Filipino culture for the traditional, feminine ideal. She is kind, modest and at the same time a strong character. The “Maria Clara” cult figure failed to capture her strength as a woman. Instead, the notion conveniently focused on an ideal culture in the Philippines, where women are expected to be an epitome of femininity.

This film sends out a message to women all over the world, to not feel pressured to conform to any “Maria Clara” stereotype in their culture, but to have the courage to be who they want to be.
