This is an updated and extended version from my previous edit of the Return Journey and The Last Stage chapters.

I have tried to isolate the audio of Lindir and Elrond but this is imperfect so I will have to try and use the original film audio and hopefully the laughing and splashing Dwarves in the background audio won’t be too noticeable. I wanted to include a scene of Elrond at least as it felt weird that we went back to Rivendell and only saw Gandalf and Galadriel there. I have replaced the subtitles of Lindir and Elrond to echo Elrond and Gandalf’s conversation from The Last Stage chapter in the book. In my edit, this whole section serves as a tease of Sauron, the Ring and events to come in The Lord of the Rings. It doesn’t feel too much like fan service here and feels more like a natural progression and conclusion to the Necromancer subplot. I have tried to track Lindir’s face on after effects to get rid of the bemused and comical expression he has on his face during this scene in order to match the gravitas of the new dialogue. It’s not totally perfect but the imperfections I hope aren’t that noticeable.

I have also moved Bilbo’s shards of Narsil scene to this part of the film. The red outfit is a problem (but you could argue that he still packed this outfit and that they are his lounging about or holiday clothing and that the Elves of Rivendell fixed up his clothes haha. It is a bit of a continuity error, but the scene just naturally feels so much more at home here. I can personally overlook the outfit for the sake of narrative pacing and the impact of that moment and the tease of what is to come. I have also added a little extra LOTR sound clip in there for good measure. The scene also feels a lot better now with Bilbo at Rivendell. We now get a bit of everyone there!
