“The hacker scene was actually shot in Chris’ living room, which we filled with computers and any other stuff we could find to fill the space. We then stacked all of these different cables all over the place and tried to make the walls look a little more interesting. We built up the walls using tech-stuff and construction site materials, so the scene was more like a cave than a room.”
“We wanted to have as much of this scene in focus, so we shot at T4 using the Atlas Orion 32mm anamorphic lens. So that we could have everything in focus we started our lighting using four sources, but then discovered the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K could maintain a lot more shadow detail than we expected. We’d also set up a bounce light to fill in the black areas, but at ISO 3200 we didn’t need it in the end, either!”
“All we needed was a kick light for her head, the actors flash light, the LED lights in his eyes and a bunch of small practicals. As you can see in this shot the camera is painting in all of these details, because of its dynamic range. We also had an LED beamer projecting this rainy water type of texture onto the monitors which was this extra detail the camera was also able to capture. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K did all of this without any issues, which was really quite amazing.”
“We also had a second laptop to serve all of the motion graphics for the displays, which we had created in Illustrator and Photoshop. Then we tried matching the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K to the flicker rates of the screens and used DaVinci Resolve’s de-flicker setting to make it even better in post.”
