Actor, singer, and a true Georgian legend Vakhtang “Buba” Kikabidze turned 82 a week ago. With Gurika Chokheli and his Ping Pong Studio we made a little Super Mario tribute to his most iconic character Mimino, a helicopter pilot from a tiny village with a giant dream to fly huge international airliners. He moves to Moscow to find himself in a series of bittersweet adventures with his new friend - Armenian truck driver played by the fabulous Frunzik Mkrtchyan.
Shot in the toughest locations in Georgian highlands, Moscow and parts of West Berlin, this soviet Christmas classic is a heart-warming ode to friendship, and the poetic fate of Georgian men with moustaches. You laugh, you cry, you laugh again. Amazing work by Georgiy Danelia, Revaz Gabriadze, Viktoriya Tokareva, and Giya Kancheli, who basically gave us the ultimate Georgian party anthem (now available in 8bit).
