In this film, Brit Fuglevaag talks about her career as a textile artist, from her time working and living abroad, and her experience with teaching. We learn about the variety of techniques and materials used in her works, and her upcoming solo exhibitions at Kunstnerforbundet and Soft in Oslo, opening in fall 2021.

Brit Fuglevaag (b. 1939) has been one of the most prominent textile artists in Norway since the 1970s. In addition to her own artistic practice, she has contributed to the development of the Norwegian textile art scene as a professor and through political advocacy. Inspired by her time at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1963-1964), Brit’s belief in how textile making should be considered within a contemporary art context has contributed to the positioning of textile art in Norway. By advocating for the importance of seeing textile in the same way as mediums like painting and sculpture, she is considered an important figure in ensuring its continued tradition.
