The recently released documentary “Steps to the Moon” tells the story of Arthur A. Collins and his company Collins Radio, which led the way to what we know as Richardson’s Telecom Corridor ® Collins Radio had a facility based in Richardson where engineers worked with NASA on several projects including ECHO 1, a balloon-like passive satellite that gave us the first two-way satellite voice communication and the first image via satellite between two ground stations. Since the time of ECHO 1, Richardson’s Telecom Corridor ® area has become home to more than 600 telecommunication and other tech-based companies including AT&T, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Texas Instruments. The area is the largest concentration of telecom industries located between California to New York, and continues to be a place for innovation, research, and development.
