This short film documents the journey behind the final project for my BA Glass (Hons) at University for the Creative Arts - Farnham. Named Speleogenesis, a geological term describing the formation of caves, this project was inspired by the immense power of geological forces and the beauty of their effect on the landscape. I'm particularly interested in the divide between what is happening above and below the surface, and what is therefore hidden to us or revealed, which I feel is analogous to how much of ourselves we reveal or conceal. This series of work seeks to convey the depth of private emotion under the surface, and to provoke a desire for personal exploration of our own psyche.

I specialise in combining kiln-cast glass with hot casting techniques. Incorporating hot glass introduces an exciting element of uncertainty, echoing the geological forces of heat and pressure which shape the landscape. My work combines grounded, substantial forms with ethereal inner qualities, creating a world of texture and movement within the glass. The hand-sculpted textures and unpredictable process make each piece unique.
