Our short film project is an abstract and experimental take on ballet and classical dance with the use of found footage. This film gives a nod to an 80s aesthetic, using common vaporwave imagery and colours, along with 80s music, such as Madonna. We were inspired by a combination of vaporwave elements including anime, cyberpunk, and 90s web design. Our film experiments with themes of nostalgia and the passing of time, as we incorporate visual elements resembling a VHS tape. The motions that are re-winded and fast forwarded are symbolic to our relationship with time, and yearning for pop culture of the past. Our film also explores the notion of body movements, as the dance moves are highlighted by hand-drawn animations. These drawings give emphasis on the body language and basic compositional techniques.
