The Festival that has
the gift of ubiquity!
In the 12th edition of the PFA we are
witnessing a territorial expansion and
overlapping screenings requests that gives us
hope for the future of animated cinema.
The 2019 edition, however, is distinguished
by the presence of two feature films made
by two giants of storytelling: Lorenzo Mattotti
and Igort. Two very different films, in terms of
technique and narrative approach: the first is
a classic animated movie adapted from a Dino
Buzzati’s book with the same name The famous
invasion of bears in Sicily; the second one
is a live action film with only some animated
interludes adapted from the book 5 is the
Perfect Number.
As corollary to the films, there are also
the exhibitions From the book to the Big
Screen, a title that links the curator’s choice of
showcasing materials related to books, backstage, photos and drawings.
As for the performative events that will
accompany the festival, we recommend the
one of another famous cartoonist: Davide
Toffolo, Graphic Novel Is Back–Unplugged
along with other appointments that will join
musicians with animators such as: Flusso and
Planet of Falling Paths, where Cosimo Miorelli
will perform with Massimo De Mattia and
Stefano Giust and Stefano Giust with Patrizia
Oliva and Igor Imhoff. The Tesla project
will be presented at the Giuseppe Tartini
Conservatory in Trieste, with the participation
of the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, the
Conservatory and the Faculty of Applied Arts
of Belgrade.
This year’s short film programs include a
selection of about 80 films from all over the
world, many of which are world premieres
in Italy. Among the authors involved: Regina
Pessoa, Theodore Ushev, Danijel Žeželj,
Michael Frei, Donato Sansone, Anu-Laura
Tuttelberg, Luka Toth... It will definitively be
an hard challenge for the jury composed
of Andrijana Ružić, Igor Imhoff and Carlo
Montanaro.
In addition to the main programs, there
will be a Visual&Music program, the winner
of which will receive the Davide Toffolo Prize,
which consists of a drawing made by the
author himself. At the festival in the Animakids
screenings, will be presented the episodes
of two historical figures of the animation: the
Professor Balthazar by Zlatko Grgić and Mr.
Rossi by Bruno Bozzetto. Among the programs
there will also be Cosmo, dedicated to the
50th anniversary of the Moon landing, were
will be presented the Augmented-Reality
Flip Book Apollo 11 created by Jossie Malis
with the composer Julie Reiner, and based
on the videos of the Moon landing taken from
the NASA archives, a year-long search that
resumes the event in synchronized sequences
from multiple angles.
As a Festival finale, we suggest you the
event The Paradise Festival at the Miela
Cinema in Trieste Produced by Wunderkammer
one of PFA’s partners, which is our tribute
to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci on the
anniversary that we are celebrated this year.
