A trailer for the short butoh dance film “Roots”, accompanying the “We were farmers” photography exhibition and book launch going on right now at Objectifs.
After more than 60 years and 4 generations, Ore Huiying’s family farm in Singapore is closing down. “Roots” is an interpretive short butoh dance film that explores themes of life, loss, destruction and acceptance in their journey.
The film will premiere as part of Ore Huiying’s “We Were Farmers” photography exhibition and book launch at Objectifs from 29 July to 29 August 2021. Details of other viewings and screenings will be announced later.
I had an awesome time working on this personal project for the past few months. Truly talented people, from Ore’s beautiful photos and story to the extremely talented multi disciplinary artist Wendy Toh to Evan Tan’s hauntingly inspirational music & Thunk’s colorgrade!
Shot on the Sony FX6. Part of the film is shot with the same Hasselblad Zeiss Planar lenses that Ore used for her medium format film prints of life on her farm.
