Due to the patterns and programs we experience in our daily lives today, it would be an understatement to say humans have taken destructive control of this planet. We see the ravage of landscapes and species around us whilst rapidly reproducing ourselves. With their theater piece Suzan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot explore a speculative scenario mapping this subject. In a world where technology enters every aspect of our daily lives, what would a future biotope look like? A Symbiosis of technology, nature and humankind allows for new and exciting relationships. The play could suggest a ritual. A ritual which contradicts the patterns and rituals we experience today. Boogaerdt and van der Schoot try to work in a tentacular way. By spreading "seeds" of information they harvest multidisciplinary ideas, in this case: Audiovisual.

Working with Rotterdam Theater as a client allows for a deeper context to this project. Due to the location, the nature of the play and the audience, the content of my piece had to check a lot of boxes. The audience can experience the work in the foyer of Rotterdam theater where there is a bar with seating and tables. Nine screens placed in the foyer of the theaters have different purpose then one big screen in a movie theater. Nine LCD flat screen tv's in a three by three grid form one image. Although the screens are fixed in one location, when the Botanical Wasteland theater play is going on tour later this year the installation will travel with them. As of now the audience will be unaware of the screens beforehand. The audience will experience the screens when waiting in the foyer on the play, as well as when the audience leaves the theater or stays for a drink.

The approach to this tentacular work allows for an interesting creative boundary. The nature of the play can be quite shocking to an unprepared audience. I will introduce the subject, widen the imagination of the audience and give them a pre-shock. By highlighting the central themes of the theater play, I try to shock the audience in a playful way. Due to the environment of the exposition it is important to draw the audience's attention in order to meaningfully deliver an idea.

Using these themes and boundaries together with the context of the surrounding work and client, my final piece came together.
