These portraits represent a subversion of intent and usurpation of purpose that is both unsettling and provocative, reconstructing a sentimental view into a more determined exploration of the intersection of nostalgia and race. The works challenge the viewer to see beyond the periphery of the “American Dream” and embrace the complicated affair that exists at the edge of realism.
