A few weeks ago Shetland was the best place in the UK to see the partial extent of the annular solar eclipse that was fully visible in a path from Canada, through Greenland, over the North Pole and ending in northeastern Siberia. Unfortunately it was very cloudy here so I only had intermittent visibility at my viewing location at Sumburgh Head. Nevertheless, we witnessed about 38% of the sun being obscured at maximum eclipse and I was able to photograph the sun and moon very close to this moment, though through fairly thick cloud. Here is the result of my photographs, compiled into a short timelapse movie. Unfortunately, there are some large time gaps when the sun was obscured so and the last part was completely invisible.
