OUTSIDE LOOKING IN follows a hopeless wandering character who spies on, and repeatedly attempts to invade a family’s property. The family is his own, and the character feels so much shame and detachment from them that he has exiled himself, out of sheer compulsion. Scrambling, and unable to understand his predicament, he obsesses over regaining access to the family, none of whom seem to notice his absence. OUTSIDE LOOKING IN attempts to put the audience in the mind of a dejected child who doesn’t feel like they can connect with and be honest with their own family. The film utilises a creepy, voyeuristic point-of-view camera that shocks the senses of its audience into feeling the dread and detachment of its protagonist. There are no easy routes or answers when it comes to identity and relationships.
