My film will revolve around the concept that someone is going through the
experience of eating sound. Sound will be an ambiguous entity symbolised as its
own food, almost as if sound is its own drug which is craved by the hungry human.
Presented as a usual breakfast scene, an empty stark white plate will become as if
a spinning record, a hypnotic meal of sound awaiting the person eating. The film
will become a surreal, introspective trip will have a variety of sounds as if it is a
variety of different foods, and will revolve around the concept of what sound would
feel like as it travels through the body. Repetition of imagery will occur through the
consistent switch between the outside view of the person eating and how the
sound travels through their body, how they are feeling inside, like a psychological
experience. For instance, a vibrating, metallic tone will be created for sound
travelling down the throat, alongside flickering images. The layering of these
sounds will create an almost musical number to the pacing of a wacky, unusual
breakfast scene. The concept of this film further links into the idea of death and
killing, as the act of eating is as if killing something, thus the sound will work to
portray life in climaxes whilst ultimately resulting in a crescendo towards silence.
This was particularly inspired by Francis Picabia’s ‘Dada Manifesto’ and the one
line which reads: “ephemeral is the word death, you love death for others.”
