. This little five and a half minute
faux gallery tour has a music track
from the last seven minutes of the
2001 film by Steven Spielberg, “AI”.
Composer John Williams wrote
this piano concerto. It was richly
orchestrated by John Neufeld and
Conrad Pope.
I’ve abridged and volume balanced
the music. It is entitled “The Reunion”.
The full 7:49 track can be found at~
youtube.com/watch?v=47cB3HNWLzY
The concerto that Williams wrote
went over the length of the movie.
Director Spielberg liked the music
so much that, along with film editor
Michael Kahn, he re-edited the last
seven minutes of movie to match
Williams’ concerto. Spielberg had
done a similar edit nineteen years
before in 1982 with E.T. where,
along with Carol Littleton, he edited
the last 15 minutes of Williams’
music.
In the eighth room of my faux
gallery, the ten word (Serious,
Socrates, Particle, Decimal, Hurri-
cane, Dolphin, Dude, Monica,
David, Monica) activation code
for the AI, David, is in the middle
panel.
Most rooms have Alice characters,
I’ve taken just one, a fat Humpty,
sitting on a wall, a careless Dumpty,
who, after the fall, ne'er will be healthy
like regimes toppled, like humpty-dumpty.

In the 5th room a caterpillar looked
askance at me
for a time in strange superior silence
it was so strange to see.
Then took he a hookah from his mouth,
'Who are YOU?', he said sleepily.
Not wanting to be misconstrued,
I said, 'Well, you see...'
'I don’t see!' interrupted the blue
not yet a chrysalis to butterfly.
'You are old Mr. Wayne', he said rudely,
'That you cannot see!?
I’m in my youth, I’m a brilliant blue.
Yes, such a true blue beauty!

The final 30th room in my faux
gallery is an installation view of the
Shantel Martin 2019 Words and
Lines exhibit at the Denver MoA.
The Alice in Wonderland images
and characters and adaptations of
SFMoMA and NYCMoMA rooms
are paired here with original black
paint splatters, iterated function
systems fractals and other whimsy
just for my own delight.

Let none in these halls rise to command,
none assume an “honorable” title and
none be called to the witness stand.

To the contrary, leave egos behind,
instead enter with an open mind,
and look your own truth to find.

Not swallowed in the gaping maw,
in self-aggrandizing, in fatal flaw.
Enter to find love’s universal law.

Let William’s chords lift your soul,
Like a Bach Sanctus and the whole
on heaven’s holy list to enroll*.

*Loosely after a portion of 1855
Robert Browning’s Abt Vogler
“Dramatis Personæ”
