The apple to her is, her grandmother. At the end, she misses her grandmother's apple, which she hated when she was young. Yet there is no way to taste it. The fact that the existence of apples is being threatened by the climate crisis means that it pushes her to forget grandmother's apple.

The prolonged COVID-19 restricted meetings with her grandmother in a nursing home for a long time, and eventually, it forced her grandmother to forget her forever.
