A scene from Generation Zero
Filmmakers - Christopher Schlierf and Benjamin Kratzin
“These big architectural night shots are where the dynamic range of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is really paying off. We didn’t need any big lights just by using the available practicals to keep this shot alive. You still get all of the highlight details in the background, but you can also see we have the shadow details on the un-lit surfaces to the left and right of the scene.”
“Usually, it’s very hard to keep this type of shot balanced, but this sensor and color science of Blackmagic is holding all of that information for us. One of our beloved things from Blackmagic Design is the highlight slider in the Blackmagic RAW settings and the way it all comes together in DaVinci Resolve, particularly if you are using REC709.”
“When using the 50mm anamorphic lens in a big outside space like this, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K enabled us to shoot at T3 with no external lights at all. It wouldn’t have been remotely possible to keep it that sharp, if we hadn’t been able to shoot as high as ISO 3200!”
