This video documents a part of the show piece "Shadow Sites II(2011)" by Jananne Al-Ani, who is an Iraq born British artist, and people's reaction towards this piece. This work is a montage of photographs which depicts desert landscapes from distance, and these landscapes were thought to be "empty desert" in Western stereotypes. By showing these landscapes, the artist reveals the trance of previous architecture which is on the contrary of Western's understanding towards Iraq. I chose this piece because it is quiet in a dark room. Even though I was re-shooting it, it would still be clear for the audience to see the elements: the photos. In this documentary there are several random people went in to the dark room to see this piece, so I could record their reaction towards it. In the middle part of the documentary, I changed the camera angle to show the ceiling and the surrounding, because it might be better for the audience to have an overall picture of this room. In the end, I went out of the dark room by across the other viewers, as I want it to have more sense of "authenticity": this is what would happen when you are in a museum show. Finally I take a shot of the description of this art work, as it might be easier for audience who might be interested in it to find it, as there is title and introduction within the shot. Also, it is necessary to know the author's purpose of creating this piece. The other piece which is in this video is ""Serious Games III: Immersion" by Harum Farocki. This work is a two-channel film installation. It examines virtual spaces and automated vision in various cultural contexts. This work documents interactive therapeutic software that the US military de eloped for the treatment of the pst-traumatic stress disorder in veterans. The most important one in my work, which is also the source of the soundtrack is the "Evil.16: (Torture.Musik)" by Tony Cokes, an American artist. It states the torture of music, especially American pop music had been used to torture soldiers from Iraq. By using this piece as a soundtrack, I aim to reveal how the pop music, we used to and still are consume a lot, can be a disruption of our thoughts and invasion of our mind.
