Girato tra settembre del 1945 e la primavera del 1946, fu presentato al pubblico il 1 giugno del 1946. Interpreti protagonisti sono Maya Deren, due ballerini professionisti, Rita Christiani e Frank Westbrook e Anaïs Nin. Per la realizzazione di questo corto la regista utilizzerà lo spazio, il tempo e il corpo come elementi compositivi della sua partizione visiva, realizzando un “rituale cinematografico” finalizzato alla trasfigurazione conclusiva della protagonista. Una metamorfosi spirituale, scandita da un tempo della cinepresa, che viene qui trasfigurato in una complessa architettura ritualistica, che necessita del sacrificio e dell’abbandono del vecchio corpo abitato da credenze e idee superflue.
Il ciclo infinito della nascita-morte-rinascita rivive attraverso la ninfa in lutto che risorge alla nuova vita della “sposa”, come in alcune divinità mortali di antiche religioni.

Maya Deren - Ritual in Transfigured Time
Filmed between September 1945 and the spring of 1946, it was presented to the public on June 1, 1946. The protagonists are Maya Deren, two professional dancers, Rita Christiani and Frank Westbrook and Anaïs Nin. For the realization of this short, the director will use space, time and the body as compositional elements of her visual partition, creating a “cinematographic ritual” aimed at the final transfiguration of the protagonist. A spiritual metamorphosis, marked by a time of the camera, which is here transfigured into a complex ritualistic architecture, which requires the sacrifice and abandonment of the old body inhabited by superfluous beliefs and ideas.
The infinite cycle of birth-death-rebirth relives through the mourning nymph who rises to the new life of the "bride", as in some mortal deities of ancient religions.
