#internationalwomensday is everyday with the legendary Maya Gabeira �� On October 28, 2013 @maya nearly lost her life at Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal doing what she loves most - big wave surfing � After this near-drowning experience and dramatic rescue, Maya was taken to the hospital with a broken shin. Naturally, after an NDE the human spirit shifts and new perspectives and strengths emerge. And here is her legacy continued...she was nominated at the BILLABONG XXL for the Wipeout of the Year in 2014!

Here’s what EVERY brave, fearless, limitless, unstoppable woman has: the come back! In January of 2018 Maya surfed a 68 ft high wave in Nazare, and made the history books, recorded by Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest wave surfed by a female surfer ever.

Voted Best Female Action Athlete in 2009, a Teen Choice Award in 2010, 5 XXL BILLABONG AWARD, Maya embodies resilience, strength of body and mind and shows the world what it looks like to put mental practices into play to reach the ultimate goal.
