Testing out the Lumix 14-45, 3.5-5.6 with in lens stabilizer, and the Rode Videomicro, mic recorded directly into camera.

All water sounds are recorded on location with the Rode microphone, but I did mix in additional soundscape effects towards the end. This is a kit lens and really affordable! I know everyone always hates zoom kit lenses, but I think the main issue is usually that the aperture wont go very low and it will auto adjust when using the zoom. I don't think this is a big deal, depending on what you plan to shoot with it, if this was for indoor interviews/events, I would need to make sure I had enough light. This lens is more of a all around lens, great for travel, since the native Lumix lens is so small, even as a zoom lens! Also, when shooting outside I don't find myself ever needing a really low aperture, in fact I usually shoot with a ND or Polarizing filter to cut down on the natural light of the sunshine/sky.

One other thing is the build quality is thinner, but this model does have a metal lens mount, and if you end up breaking the lens, you wont be out $500 + for most new prime or constant aperture lenses. I also really like power O.I.S, in lens stabilizer, especially since my camera doesn't have one. :)

Overall, the Rode Videomicro worked really well, recording directly into my camera. I was recording on the beach with a good amount of wind/water sounds, and shooting all hand held. I did already have my in-camera mic levels turned down to around 2 above the lowest setting. I didn't get a chance to record any kind of talking, but I would end up recording off camera if I planned to record any kind of interview, usually with a recorder/boom mic or Lav mic.

I thought the Rode Videomicro was great for recording on-location ambient/background sounds, plus has very small footprint in your camera bag!, The Lumix lens had a great O.I.S stabilizer, but did take a little post color-grading, to even out some of the highlights, but I was also filming directly into the water and sun/sky. I thought the lens was still more then capable as the one lens I would bring for shooting travel/adventure films, since its the perfect size and really helps to shoot handheld on a smaller budget! I didn't notice any noticeable loss in quality verse a more expensive cinema or prime lens, but it's possible to notice a small difference if comparing a side by side, since the image quality would vary based on where/what you are filming. I think it would also take a few months or several bigger projects to give a full comparison between other lenses. Great first impressions though!
