Subtitles are used in film to translate the spoken word. What if we used subtitles to translate what’s most
important: the things that go unspoken?
For those who are experiencing bullying, many are hesitant to speak up about it. In fact, 1 in 5 people
experience it, so someone you know right now is suffering; you just don’t know it.
Their feelings of shame, fear and isolation are overwhelming, and without talking about it, their feelings
are left unvalidated and unresolved. They suffer in silence.
Through our film, ‘Lost in Translation’, we’re repurposing subtitles to show victims that what they’re feeling
is normal. They’re not ‘crazy’ for feeling ashamed, scared or alone. They’re not alone in carrying on
through life with a veil that “everything is ok”.
But they don’t have to suffer in silence. By translating these common feelings in our film, we’re
destigmatising them. Because when an issue isn’t taboo, speaking up about it won’t be either.
