I made this trailer for an experimental animation class; the assignment was to create a short experimental animation. The study of comics and special effects inspired my project. Comics rely on unrealistic characters for universal appeal, and comics leave gaps in motion for the audience to engage with and imagine. On the other end of the spectrum, special effects aim for hyperrealism to convince viewers. While computers dominate the industry today, stop-motion animation has produced movie monsters that still hold up to modern technologies. By combining a cartoon-style main character with real-life backgrounds and a stop-motion monster, the monster feels like an even bigger threat.

This animation was made with Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. The stop-motion was shot using a Nikon DSLR camera with Dragonframe software, while the main character was drawn with a Wacom Cintiq in Adobe Photoshop.
