Voces Fantasmas was performed as part of CAMH's programming, presented by Concertia.
This program is inspired by composer J.E. Hernández's own experiences with immigrant detention. In 2013, Hernández spent 60 days inside the Houston ICE Processing Center. It is Hernández's hope to both honor the many people Hernández lived with in those two months. The work contains text in three languages: Spanish, English, and Nahuatl. Hernández like to extend a thank you to Gabriel Pareyón for his tremendous help with the Nahuatl text.
The program is a multi-disciplinary program featuring music by J.E. Hernández, soprano Shannon Murray, the Apollo Chamber Players, choreography from Marlana Doyle, Jesus Acosta from the Houston Contemporary Dance Company, and film from Christian & Orlando Briones from FILMATIC Cinema. Please check their work out! They are all extremely talented individuals.
