- When a bipolar woman commits suicide, her sister and her sister's fiancé become entangled in an attempt to discover what pushed her to the brink.

During film making, you often find your self in a tight spot. It can be a lack of time, available resources, space or a combination of all. On set of Inez & Doug & Kira, we found ourselves in one of those spots more often than not, but it makes you creative, keeps you up your feet and often results in great working solutions.

We shot most of the movie in a brownstone in New York. A beautiful place, quite big for New York, but a house is always too small to film in. I was often very close to the actors and we developed these small dances together, I had to react to or with them and they had to feel where I was (going to be). This is what I love most about being a cinematographer, emerging yourself in a scene, diving in with the actors and discover the emotions together. Anticipating, both in planning out the scene and actually shooting it.
This scene was shot at the end of a long day at the end of our time in the main location. We didn't have time prior to rehearse, so when I saw how hectic the movements were going to be I knew I had to move with the flow. I also wanted to give actors Michael Chernus and Tawny Cypress as much space as possible in the small room. So together with director Julia Kots, I came to the conclusion that this one-shot was going to be more fitting and a lot faster in execution than our initial plan. Gaffer Alan Blanco and grip Katie Morrisey replaced the overhead lamp with a LiteMat 4 and we had full control of all the lightbulbs. It ended up becoming one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
