Herefordshire Life Through a Lens: THE PHOTOS

Photographs from the Derek Evans Studio Archive 1940s-1970s




The PHOTOS is the culmination of the three-year Herefordshire Life Through a Lens project, and this multi-venue exhibition of photographs represents the first major retrospective of the Derek Evans Studio collection ever to be held. Many of the images have never been seen outside Derek’s dark room, or been exhibited for over 50 years. Until now. 


Exhibitions with different themes are on display at Hereford’s Museum and Art Gallery, the College of Arts, Cathedral, the Archive and Records Centre, The Courtyard and county libraries. The shows include Derek’s original exhibition prints, photographic artefacts, press cuttings, contemporary images in response to the archive, talks, and, at the Buttermarket, a pop-up dark room where people can develop Derek’s negatives.
