The finest emeralds in the world are buried deep within the mountains of Colombia. This film explores how the precious green stones are mined, extracted, and prepared for market in Bogotá.

We filmed on location in the Muzo region of Colombia using an Arri Alexa Mini and an 18-80 Alura Zoom lens. We weren't able to bring any additional equipment with us into the mines so we relied only on the available light provided by the miner’s headlamps.
