The artist’s isolated destabilization screams a deafening silence. Twisted in a slightly a-skewed utopia of an imaginary life setting, the film is about being alone, together. The dancer and camera seek one another, turning time into new possibilities. Composer Edgardo Moreno has created an original score for the film.

Fallow is a new collaboration between award-winning artists’ Karen Kaeja (Dancer/Choreographer) and Allen Kaeja (Cinematographer). Originally created for the National Arts Centre #CanadaPerforms Livestream series as a single take experiment in the early throws of the pandemic in May 2020, Fallow was reimagined and reshot in October 2020 as this short film.

Karen’s choreography was seeded at times from three decades of collaborative dance making with Allen and Edgardo. In the making of the film Karen found that Edgardo’s music was triggering her body’s archive of past choreography and dancing that she created in Allen’s Holocaust work. Calling upon those layers of triggers, she ignited new movement for the film. What once was became no longer, and birthed new developments.
