Jack turns 82 years old on April 22, 2019. For a man of his appetites and reputation, that’s quite an accomplishment! Jack may like to party, but he can back up his success with a string of unforgettable, genius performances. Other than Michael Caine, he’s the only thespian to be nominated for an Oscar every decade from the 1960s to the 2000s. Three actual Academy Awards and 12 nominations later, Jack does not act much anymore, although he is in talks to star in a remake of TONI ERDMANN.

My video essay pays tribute to Jack and his many memorable, anti-authority characters. In life, Jack has favored younger women, but his startling turn in 2002’s ABOUT SCHMIDT shows his fans a version of himself never seen before: a retired 65-year old with a comb-over and a wife his own age. It’s Jack’s last great performance (as of this writing) and reminds us he can do anything. Even if it means just being an average man. Thanks for the hard work, Jack. Your films will continue to stand the test of time.
