Inspired by John Carpenter's campy science fiction film "They Live," and Jenny Holzer’s “Truisms”, a series of text-based works that were once placed into the empty theatre marquees along 42nd Street, visual artist Andrew Cornell Robinson has drawn and animated 1,000 images with interstitial messages rendered in a rough and gestural line. Exploring the glut of images that coalesce upon platforms like social media, Robinson has created a contemporary congregation of images and ideas through his black and white hand-drawn animations that flicker through a kaleidoscope of symbols and uncanny proverbs provoking playful associations of rough-hewn lines and forms presented in rapid-fire succession.
