“Bright” is a short film that tells the story of a man feeling worthless until he suddenly finds his purpose by bringing back light to a town caught up in a power outage. After making everything bright again, he begins to see himself as a bright person as well. Working with a theme consisting only of the word “bright” was engaging as I could play around with the word’s meanings and have full freedom of expression.

The cinematography was challenging as most of the scenes were both shot and acted by me, however I believe this also lead to creating interesting angles and compositions. The film creates a contrast between the character dressed in black, dealing with dark thoughts, and the bright environment around him portraying how it will bring light to him later into the movie. While shooting dark scenes with an iPhone camera was a struggle, I think they still portrayed the idea of bringing brightness to the world as the main focus of the shot. No speech is prevalent throughout the entire film as adding any dialogue would have been unnecessary since the entire plot is told through acting and camerawork.

The main message of my short film was to portray the importance of having a purpose in life and how it can bring happiness and content with oneself.
