Alexander Chekmenev has been photographing a street life for more than 28 years. In winter 2018, he began his project, where he shoots the life of unwanted people - the homeless. Photographing the seemingly grim plots he tears out of the dark the most important thing - the person’s face. There are portraits on Sasha's photos, as if descended from the paintings of Rembrandt. He managed to catch the essence, without masks and decorations. He focuses on the fact that most of our lives we live in the darkness of stereotypes, prejudices, conventions. From his works, life itself looks at us as it is - cruel, beautiful, simple. His photo is a confession. Often the latter. For two years of filming of the project - 100 photos, 16 deaths and many volunteer work. Someone needs to tell their stories. Nobody really knows what will happen to them tomorrow. With this project, Alexander turns a mirror to us - successful and socially realized. After all, as one of the homeless said: you need to remember that it doesn’t matter who you were, but it is important where you live and who is near you.
