In the Shadow of the Spectacle. This project operates over a large span of time situated at the mouth of the river lea. The architecture aims to create a new meeting ground, ancient to the future. A remnant of events to come. Its goal, to protect the Lea Valley in demonstration of the value we must place on the long future ahead. The spaces signify the ever passing of time as they shift at varying speeds. To produce a space which acts as a frame of reference in the record of the omnipresent satellite for the oncoming future of risks to the common.

The project is rooted in the idea of analysing events which describe the nature of much larger change. We live in the shadow of the daily spectacle which draws our attention, misdirecting the public and confusing governments. We lose sight of the slow burning crisis. The project also draws from the movement known as “future design” which is based off seventh-generation decision-making practiced in many native American communities. There is a growing body of research demonstrating that such deliberative citizen-based bodies have a greater capacity to take the long view than the traditional politicians.
