This piece was created for my experimental cinema class, which is one of my favorite production classes I’ve ever taken. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we had to move all of our classes online. This was my first piece made under quarantine/self-isolation and the assigned theme was “obsession.” Due to the current circumstances, many people fall reliant on repetition as it gives us a sense of comfort and normalcy in our daily lives. Regardless of the efforts, we still have this wandering concern of “when will this all be over?” We are in a state of isolation and long for a companion in these hard times, but we must remain distant. It’s hard for many people, including myself, to either remain in this stable loop or to break it. The ambiguity of the images represents the haze and confusion we share but still optimistic and hopeful enough to want to discover the end.
