In 2018 we made a dance show called "Alone Together" for ODC Theater in San Francisco, in which we placed the audiences on the stage, and the 7 performers in the seats.

We were supposed to remount this piece in 2020, but it was postponed due to Covid-19. And then we couldn't do it in 2021 either, as the theater was not yet open to the public. So we made a film about NOT performing "Alone Together." It's called (Alone Together)² and it's pronounced "squared."

(Alone Together)² is not a dance film, but it has dancing in it. It could be described as a series of portraits with words and images, of people dancing and NOT dancing. There are quiet and slow moments and bombastic ones too, all to a score by my longtime collaborator Dave Cerf.

This 30-minute film premiered as part of ODC Theater's online Festival, that included 10+ video commissions from a wide range of theater and dance artists. It's available on demand through June 30, 2021. We're thrilled to be sharing a bill with NAKA Dance Theater; so you get two pieces for one.
