This is the first time I've had a 4k scan made of film I shot. Film is 35mm Ektachrome reversal. Subject is Springer, NM and semaphores 706.1/706.2.

This isn't great. The Arri 235 is pin-registered. It should have no capability to produce poorly-registered output. But this film has registration problems. They are very evident in the last 15 seconds.

Ektachrome 100 is sticky stuff. It won't run in Aaton A-Minima at all unless it's lubricated before use. I believe the problems here may be related to: 1) stickiness of film, 2) film may have become a little stiff after 7 years of freezer storage. The massive instability at the end is consistent with 2. As we get to the final small-diameter winds on the supply core, things get worse and worse. This might be fixable by reverse winding stock before use, letting it sit for a month or so, then returning winding to normal shortly before use. Will I try this solution? Probably not.

Also, I won't say who processed this, but DAMN, that's a lot of dust. They must have used hand rewinds to load onto processor reel, in a room where cabinets are sanded.

Aside from the technical challenges and the highly variable lighting, I kind of dig how it turned out.
